Recap - Jaguars Defeat Southern Miss 31-7

Jalen Tolbert caught 5 passes for 168 yards against the Southern Miss defense as South Alabama handed the Golden Eagles a 31-7 loss on Saturday at Hancock Whitney Stadium.

Bettors who backed the Jaguars were also rewarded, as they covered the closing number as a favorite of -2.0 at sportsbooks. Over-Under bettors saw the total score go UNDER the closing total of 57.0.

Kareem Walker rushed for 26 yards, while Terrion Avery added 12 yards in the win. Jalen Tolbert and Caullin Lacy added 168 and 67 receiving yards respectively.

Frank Gore, Jr. rushed for 81 yards for Southern Miss, while Trey Lowe added 24 yards. Trey Lowe threw for 133 yards for the Golden Eagles, while receivers Jakarius Caston and Brad Dennis had 38 and 26 yards respectively.

Southern Miss was outgained by South Alabama 300-258 yards in Saturday's match, while the important battle of first downs was won 19-13 by the Golden Eagles.

South Alabama lost the time of possession battle 31:27-28:33, leaving their defense on the field more than they wanted.

Next game, South Alabama takes its act on the road to face Bowling Green looking for another win. For Southern Miss, they head home to face Grambling State.
